Overview:

The battle to retake Guam had moved into its final phase as the Marines pushed the stubborn Japanese defenders into the northern portion of the island. The advance was renewed on August 3rd, with the 3rd Marines having easy going but the 9th Marines were brought to a halt juts two hours later as they approached Road Junction 177. As the leading elements approached RJ177, just west of Finegayan village, an estimated platoon of Japanese opened fire on Company B, 1/9 Marines across a wide expanse of open ground south of the junction. Braving the intense Japanese fire, a platoon of Marines supported by armor and company supporting fire rushed across the open ground.
Attacker: American (USMC) (Company B, 1/9 Marines)
