Overview:
Artillery opened a 15-minute preparation at 0645 on 10 April, but General Easley felt that it had not fallen close enough to the lines to be effective. He ordered another 15-minute bombardment. The 2nd Battalion, 381st Infantry then jumped off from the outskirts of Uchitomari toward Kakazu West. It soon came under intense mortar and machine gun fire. The 1st Battalion, 381st Infantry moved up behind the 2nd.
