Overview:

Despite having steamrolled all the way down the Malayan peninsula in just two months, the Japanese paused only a few days to gather their strength before assaulting the defenders massed on the island of Singapore. As the British planned a general withdrawal to solidify their inland and coastal defenses on the night of 9 February, the Japanese began a new bombardment. After it ended at 8:30 pm, Japanese barges and boats full of the men of the Imperial Guards Division began approaching 2/26th Battalion's positions along the shores of the strait. The Aussies stood to their guns and began to wreck the invading forces.
