Overview:
Transylvania had been handed to Hungary in Vienna in August 1940, which the Romanians had seethed over since that time. In August 1944 when Romania joined the Allies, an opportunity arose to regain the annexed areas by force. The Niculescu/Matei Armored Group had been build up to a true combined Task Force for the spearhead of the breakthrough of the Romanian VI Corps. On 9 October, the breakout began in true blitzkrieg fashion, pushing through the Hungarian Infantry Units and racing ahead. On 11 October, they were outside Apahida, when the defense stiffened, enemy tanks indicated that the Hungarian 2nd Armored Division was near.Attacker: Romanian (Niculescu/Matei Armored Group)
