Overview:
By Friday the 13th of April, the fighting for the Essel bridgehead had been raging for over two days. Initially, the German defenses -- comprised of a mixed force of SS, marines, Wehrmacht, and troops from various military schools -- had managed to contain the British Commandos to a small piece of ground centered on a park known as the Alexander Platz. However, on April 12, the British engineers had completed the repairs to the damaged Essel road bridge, and elements of the British 11th Armoured Division began to cross into the bridgehead.Attacker: British (46 (Royal Marine) Commando, 1st Commando Brigade, with 75th Anti-Tank Regiment, Royal Artillery)
