Overview:
Coming out of a pea soup-thick fog on the morning of the 19th, Peiper's men assaulted Stoumont and in a three hour battle, chewed up the American defenders, the entire 3rd Battalion of the 119th Infantry Regiment. Even the arrival of the promised tank support could not prevent the disruption of the American battalion. For a time, the 743rd Tank Battalion's tanks duked it out with Peiper's panzers and infantry in the streets of Stoumont, but when the remains of I and K Companies of the 119th retreated, the tanks were ordered to move westward also.Attacker: German (SS) (Kampfgruppe Peiper)
