Overview:

Peiper's Kampfgruppe had penetrated deep behind the American lines, far ahead of its supporting units and now found itself surrounded and out of fuel. Mohnke, the commander of the 1st SS Panzer, ordered them to break through to Peiper's beleaguered column. The 82nd Airborne Division was the focus of the attack.
