Overview:

"Three Musketeers" -- On the 5th November, the amphibious and airborne phases of Operation Musketeer commenced. This action, as tortuous as it was clumsy, sought to combine the military forces of France, the United Kingdom and Israel. Its disparate goals included regaining control of the Suez Canal, deposing the regime of Egyptian president Nasser, noisy support for the FLN in Algeria and for the Israelis, destruction of Egypt’s stocks of soviet-made weapons. An Israeli attack in Sinai, launched on 29th October, served as the fallacious pretext for Franco-English intervention at Port Said to protect the Suez Canal. The 3rd Parachute Battalion was tasked with the seizure of the nearby airfield at Gamil, on the eastern shore, before advancing into Port Said. At 0715 the drop was made without too much loss, but the advance towards Port Said experienced growing resistance. B Company was stalled by defensive posts established around a graveyard, and C Company then received the order to take the position.
Attacker: British (C Company, 3rd Parachute Battalion)
