Overview:
On the morning of 28 October, the 1st and 2nd Battalions, 34th Infantry were ordered to the town of Alanalang. After setting up local security, the battalions moved toward the Mainit River about one and a half miles due west through a driving rainstorm. Contact was made with elements of the 33rd Infantry, who had dug in on both sides of the steeply sloping banks of the river at the steel bridge crossing. The 2nd Battalion pushed north and crossed the river unopposed. Five tanks followed to fire at targets of opportunity. Both Battalions were to attack, destroy enemy resistance, and secure the eastern and western banks of the river respectively.Attacker: American (2nd Battalion, 34th Infantry Division)
