Overview:

A few days after Operation Schwarz was launched, the next attack objective for Division Prinz Eugen, the Savnik area, became even more significant. General Phleps deployed several units in order to reinforce the attack forces in this sector. A prisoner of war statement indicated that the 5th Brigade wanted to break out of the Orah area through Gornje Polje to the west with 15 companies of 90 men each. All companies were placed on the highest alert. Battalion Dietsche was then ordered to seize the village of Savnik.

2017-05-13(A) Richard Jenulis vs Mark Bergin German (SS) win
2011-09-17(D) Bob Callen vs Stan Jackson DrawLet me say first: I really like partisan scenarios. So they usually get a good rating from me. This one played out about like I expected, with Stan sending his SS along the mountain and road on board 50. I setup the bulk of my forces on Board 50: with 7 of the 13 buildings there, I felt that this was where I needed to make my stand. My fortified locations were I8 and G10: I wanted I8 to be an early game strongpoint, and I wanted the INF gun in G10, so wanted to prevent the easy advance. I put HIP 337 and LMG in E10 (protecting the approaches to F8 on one side -- the 9th Bldg and G10, my second fortified location) and L6 (for an early game surprise if he ran along the ridge top, especially with the ldr and radio for his OBA: this didn't work--M4 would have been better to get the surprise kill on the OBA observer, but better still would have been D5, as thus game played out, protecting the back door to F8). As the game played out, my partisans quickly wilted under fire and I lost about 4 squads in the first three turns. The I8 stronghold, which had a DC and 527, failed to slow the SS down, and my 527 broke on a 1MC when he tried to place the DC against one of the H39 tanks. But things turned when I killed this tank with the INF gun and then went on a rate tear the next turn (still had my 2 ROF after breaking/killing 2 squads which had moved adjacent). Stan was forced to divert the other tank to deal with the INF gun via bypass sleaze, but I also had moved a 337 into the building to defend against this. I was able to immobilize the tank, and eventually kill it. Stan did kill the crew with a DC and failure to rout, but the 337 passed a 2 MC and Stan still had not taken this location when we had to stop, although it was imminent. We had to end after 4.5 turns due to time constraints. We called this one a draw, as Stan was sitting on
13 CVP with several good shots coming back at him but it looked like he had a good chance to capture the necessary 9 buildings. he would probably have had to endure at least one CC to get the last couple of buildings, plus had a squad adjacent to an INF gun AND another in open ground adjacent to a 9-1, 337, LMG stack which had just rallied. He needed both of these to be in good order in order to complete the capture of buildings he needed.
