Overview:
The SS Divisions operating in the Balkans each had one or two Hotchkiss or Renault tank companies. The French tanks mostly served in their Aufklarung Abteilung beside motorcycles and horse mounted troops. On October 11, 1944, these French tank throwbacks would see action against the latest Russian t-34 tanks. On this date, the 105th SS Sturmgeschutz Abteilung was stationed in the village of Obrenovac, southwest of Belgrade. The assault guns were accompanied by French tanks from the Aufklarung Abteilung.
