Overview:
On December 28th, the Soviets finally captured Janos Hospital ad as a result, were less than two kilometers from the Danube and were also quite close to the German and Hungarian headquarters in the Castle Tunnel. At this time a whole Russian division set off towards Varosmajor Grange. The Grange was the most sensitive point in Buda, because a vigorous attack from there was likely to cut the cauldron in half and roll straight into the Castle District. The Germans therefore were particularly interested in its defense. The defense fortifications included numerous MG nests, barbed wire, roadblocks, mines and entrenchments. The defense consisted of the Vannay Battalion with up to 450 men and a couple of AA guns.Attacker: Russian (86th Guards Rifle Division)
