Overview:
The 2nd SS Panzer Division would never reach their objective of Liege. Stopped at Manhay on the 25th of December, increasing Allied pressure began reducing the German salient in the Ardennes. The withdrawing German forces fought holding actions to aid in the establishment of a new line of defense, shortening the length of the Ardennes front as they began to suffer from manpower shortages. Elements of Kampfgruppe Kragg, the reinforced 2nd SS Reconnaissance Battalion, were ordered to cover the withdrawal of the 2nd SS Panzer Division and provide flank protection for the 560th Volksgrenadier Division. On December 26th, American force occupied the town of Grandmenil, threatening the left flank of Manhay and prompting the withdrawal of the 2nd SS Panzer on the 27th. Covering such a large area with limited men and materials, Kampfgruppe Kragg could only hope to delay the inevitable.Attacker: American (2nd Bn, 333rd Infantry Regt, 84th Inf Division, elements of 771st Tank Bn)
