Overview:
On 10 January, thousands of Russian guns heralded the start of Operation Koltso, and the armies of the Stalingrad Front began to attack den Kessel (the cauldron). Gradually the perimeter shrank, and finally the German Army was split into several small pockets. The southern pocket contained the remnants of the 71st Infanterie Division in downtown Stalingrad, and on the 26th, General von Paulus shifted his headquarters into the Univermag building. Upon hearing of the location, General Shumilov of the 64th Army organized a special task force to capture the headquarters.Attacker: Russian (38th Motorized Rifle Brigade / 329th (Separate) Engineer Battalion)
Defender: German (Infanterie Division 71 / A.O.K. 6th Army)

2013-02-21 | (D) Richard Carter | vs | Mark Moore | German win | it seems to be either game length (maybe 1 more turn) or the ability to hold on to the multihex buildings that makes this one so hard on the Russians. Mark played well. 1 more turn and it would have been over. I set up in as many multihex bldgs as I could and hipped a ton of HS's to make it hard for him to stop my end game control. I think the Russian has to use everything really well and use encirclement to stop routing upstairs in the end game. | ||
