Overview:

American forces launched an attack on 8 October in order to surround Aachen. The 246th Volksgrenadier Division was tasked to defend the city, but was continually stripped of its strength to counter American attacks to the north. Kampfgruppen were returned to the division nearly depleted, and some Fortress and Luftwaffe units were sent to bolster its strength. On 10 October three American soldiers entered the city with a white flag and gave a surrender ultimatum. Meanwhile, elements of the 1st Infantry Division had encircled the city to the east and prepared to attack westward. The surrender ultimatum was rejected based on Hitler’s “Last Stand” order to defend the city. On 11 October over 300 planes began bombing the city, and twelve battalions of artillery joined in. Overall this did little to the defenders, but turned much of the city into a pile of rubble. The ground attack began on 13 October. 2-26th Infantry organized itself into teams where each company had several two-man teams with flamethrowers and DCs, and were supported by tanks and TDs. They had to fight their way through the wrecked city as the Germans used sewer and tunnels to come up behind the advancing soldiers and conduct local counterattacks.

2012-03-18(D) Fred Ingram vs Chris Bryer German winThis was Chris's first dense city fight and he started off a little timid (mostly due to the congestion of units on the board - hard to get things coordinated). Picked up the pace by turn 3 but the die was cast at that time. The radio never came into play and the HMG's (4 of them) rarely got any shots off. We had some interesting times on the last turn as a demo charge rubbled a 2 story building a the ground level and we had to work through the falling rubble rules.
2010-12-30(D) David Ramsey vs Martin Barker German winAbsolutely battered by the American advance, but held up the US enough that the Germans could hold on to the final building with nothing more than a couple of HS and a broken leader or two.
2010-04-02(D) Ian Willey vs James Short American winSeems tough on the Germans if he can't keep breaking the Yanks. The OBA did for me as it broke all that stood in iy's way. One and ahalf turns of rolling high did not help but it just speeded up my loss
