Overview:

Operation Queen was the codename for the assault into the Roer River plain. The American XIX Corps was to cross the Roer and drive towards the Rhine. Most of the terrain was flat and dotted with villages and cultivated fields. The tankers of the 2nd Armored Division were concerned with the soggy soil conditions. For their part, the Germans had established a defensive pattern with the villages as integral parts of concentric arcs fanning outward from the major towns like ripples in a pond. The 2nd Armored Division had divided their attack into three Task Forces, each with a different objective and avenue of approach. Task Force 2 attacked in the center zone. Moving slowly in second gear because of the soggy ground, the tanks were unopposed until they reached a point about 500 yards from Apweiler. Then, undetected anti-tank guns opened up, having hidden in the orchards and fringe woods around the village.

2025-01-29(A) Justin DiSabatino vs American winThe Germans set up further back on board u in an effort to force the Americans to cross open ground. The Americans sent a force up north of infantry with one AFV while two AFVs followed the road in from vB5 and the remainder of the Americans moved in over the southern hill. Limited AFV movement meant the time crunch was felt in order to reach the exit.

The Germans managed to knock out two AFVs and delay the American infantry, but as the German forces broke, it was harder and harder to slow the Americans. Smoke was key in allowing the AFVs to make it around the German guns. It still came down to a PF attempt on the last turn, but the shot missed and the final AFV made it off the board.

2022-11-29(D) Alberto Pomar vs PezBailarin German win
2022-11-23(A) Alvaro Radigales vs German American winVery near run thing. A very successful (providential!) White Phosphorus round placement neutralised a Pak crew and cleared the way for enough Shermans to make a dash for the finish line.
2022-03-08(A) Pascal Boileau vs Eric Walmetz German winA short, fun and dicey scenario. The Americans lost in the last German turn with only one AFV left "alive". Therefore, they cannot fulfilled the VC and conceded before their ultimate turn.
2021-04-27(D) Alexey Kolleganov vs Fedor Grachev American win

(VASL Log)
4 turns played.
2nd turn Allied - First revealed German AT gun kills American Leader 9-1 and two 666 squads (snake eyes), then shocked tank crew and destroyed another tank (magic RoF).
2nd turn Axis - After an amazing shooting the crew makes a relaxing walk thru an adjacent forest hexagon.
3rd turn Allied - Shocked crew get UK state.
3rd turn Axis - German leader 8-0 and squad 467 started Close Combat in brush hex adjacent to german AT gun, then continue MELEE 4th turn. Some Americans joined melee. Brave Americans won the melee fight.
4th turn Axis - After a relaxing walk German gun crew returned to AT gun, found it, and started sending shell after shell (again magic RoF) shooting in American guys who won the melee fight. Leader 8-1 and two 666 squads stayed lying on the battle field (another snake eyes).
But Americans won the scenario succesfully moving 3 tanks and one 666 squad off the map.
2021-04-13(D) Igor Luckyanov vs Alexey Kolleganov German winIt was my turn to play Scenario of the Month via VASSAL at the face of our local ASL group here in Russia. I was a little bit nervous of the big number of spectators, but nevertheless was lucky enough to win shootin four American tanks, the first by Panzer Faust on the first turn, the other three by AT Guns fire from the rear. The fourth American tank was shooted on the third turn, so it was a pre-scheduled victory!
2021-04-13(A) Alexey Kolleganov vs Igor Luckyanov German win
2021-04-09(A) Dmitry Klyuykov vs Fedor Grachev American winBoth guns were discovered quickly. One crew was destroyed almost immediately, the second gun malfunctioned after Intensive Fire, which decided the fate of the game, as all of the tanks were still intact.

2021-04-06(D) Igor Stolyarenko vs Gleb Paskevich American win

Failures followed me to the very end...)
2021-03-20(D) Craig Renier vs Steve Boro German win

(VASL Log)
Turn 1 started badly for the American when a German AT gun appeared and was able to destroy two American tanks despite movement and hindrance TH modifiers. With that initial loss, the Americans advanced cautiously costing valuable time to reach the exit edge. A flanking force maneuvered around the German right, but woods and distance kept them from making substantive gains.
2020-09-29(A) Scott Fischbein vs Michael Holy American winAmericans used smoke to mask their advance, German gun in the woods broke after missing its first few shots, With all but one of the American tanks and lots of squads bearing down on them, and only one functioning gun left, Germans decided to call it a day.
2020-07-07(A) Javier Rodrigo Ballesteros vs Carles German win
2020-06-07(D) Derek Dunn vs Kevin Sanders American winAmerican infantry came in stacked in two stacks. Both took low FP shots, but DRs of 2 and 5. They rolled poorly on the MCs and became non-factors. HIP gun in the grain took out 2 Shermans with rate shots in the turrets. Game conceded. Agreed the infantry needed to spread out more and the tanks use more smoke.
2020-05-24(A) Raoul Duke vs BS American winIn order to win, the US needs to use all the varieties of SMOKE at their disposal: Smoke Mortars, WP, Smoke, infantry Smoke. The Germans need to use the threat of Panzerfausts to inhibit US movement. That didn't happen here, and the Germans paid a bloody price.
2020-02-16(D) Jonathan Kapleau vs Cusick, John German win
2018-03-01(D) Tripp Killin vs Sebastian Killin American winGerman didn't quite cover the closest exit hex with his guns, and required a bit of manhandling to bring them to bear. By that time American FP and SMOKE were causing havoc. American ended up with 12VP exited vs. 10 required. Last 4 went through shots and residual, so it was close. A tight little scenario. Fun and quick.
2017-12-21(A) O Ramaille vs German winThe Shermans were fearful of the AT guns and decided to turn around the woods where they expected the Germans to be hiding. However it was way too long, and the Americans did not succeed in getting any VP out. A major victory for the Germans.
2016-11-21(A) Tom Abromaitis vs Matt Russman German win
2016-09-05(A) Tom Abromaitis vs DrawGerman win. Solo.
2011-07-13(D) Martí Cabré vs Miguel Llorca DrawWe stopped the PBEM play after a couple of turns. Some tanks destroyed, some infantry broken, nothing decided.
2010-01-01(D) Pablo Barreiro vs Alex American win
2009-07-14(A) Jonathan Davis vs Dan Cunningham German win
2008-10-09(D) Allen Evenson vs Trevor Bender American winTanks ruled the day.
