Overview:
During the first three weeks of the war the Russian 14th Army drove Detachment Pennanen before it all the way to Hoyhenjarvi where the advance halted and the contenders dug in. The front would be quiet until February 24, when a Russian ski detachment commanded by Catian Znamenskiy infiltrated the thinly-held Finnish defenses in an attempt to cut the Finnish supply road. Nearby artillery and supply troops halted the Russians just short of their objective. The Russians turned to retreat only to find they had been cut off. Znamenskiy turned his now-decimated force and reached high ground at the Puurovaara fjeld. Surrounded by Finns, they were trapped in a motti. On February 26, the Russian 205th Rifle Regiment and a T-26 platoon from the 411th Separate Tank Battalion were tasked with breaking though to the beleaguered skiers.Attacker: Russian (205th Rifle Regiment)
