Overview:

Japan in war against China since 1937, had not yet managed to stop the resistance armies of Chiang Kai-shek. These forces were getting supplies by the Yunnan Railway, which went through Hai Phong. The Japanese government, taking advantage of the French defeat in Europe in June 1940, gave an ultimatum to the French. Three divisions of the Army of Guandong put pressure on the Tonkin border. On 22 September, the Army of Guandong commenced hostilities. Twenty-five thousand soldiers of the Japanese army swept in seventy kilometers from the Chinese border. For four days, the fighting took place around Lang Son.

2021-03-16(A) Stefan Fiedler vs Jake Smith Japanese winThe japanese attacked down the left flank managed to enter village on left side.

In T3 4 japanses tanks bypass sleazed (3 buildings were sleazed by the use of platoon movement) 4 buildings in to central village and one location ssmoked. A declared DC hero charged a strongpoint and immediately after 4 Banzais were planned to enter a number of locations forcing FPF in stone buildings.
After 2 had been performed the French player conceeded.

2020-11-21(D) Richard Jenulis vs Greg Rodgers French winMy 1,000th reported Scenario Archive playing! The Japanese cleared the French pickets with a turn 1 banzai charge. However, the Japanese were never able to call in the OBA and that made a difference for the French.
2017-05-13(A) Jeff B vs Mika Harviala French win7.5 hrsThis is a great scenario. Unfortunately my Japanese were not very motivated, failing numerous MCs and non-platoon TCs. The first turn plan went off without much of a hitch, but then they bogged down at the NE forest line. I conducted my first-ever banzai during the opening moves, but then I forgot all about it when another on Turn 2 was probably warranted. Chalk that up to still learning the tricks of the Japanese trade. My mortars had only one WP shot in them and my radio couldn't find a signal until late (when my leader needed to conduct his attention to trying to bring troops back into the action). Despite all the setbacks, I managed to stay in the game until the very end, but the H1 and P3 buildings were just too well protected, and the Japanese too short on bodies.
2016-03-11(A) Michael Rodgers vs Doug Rimmer French winJapanese got no smoke or WP from the two mortars. I could not get the OBA to land effectively because of LOS issues; I probably tried to use it too early as well. French defended only the buildings, so first Jap turn was all movement. After five turns and lots of CC, not enough Japanese infantry remained to take the three or four multi-hex buildings that the French still held.
2016-02-09(A) mark watson vs Jeff Wasserman Japanese winDespite a lack of OBA/Effective Air Support, the Japanese steamrolled the French. The French couldn't do anything with their guns but immobilize my tanks and then die. The French troops broke immediately upon being exposed to fire. Jeff threw in his towel during the third turn. That said, had I been less lucky, my play would have been very sub-optimal. The Japanese don't have a lot of time to dawdle, which I was guilty of.

Ultimately, It's a good scenario with a lot of early war toys. Recommended.
