Overview:

Because of a severe shortage of self-propelled guns, a decision was made to equip the 1452nd Separate Self-Propelled Artillery Regiment (SAP) with KV tanks, which had the most destructive armament of all the heavy tanks presented in the Crimea at that time. After fighting against the XVII German Army, the regiment repaired its equipment until 10 April 1944 and on 11 April a tank group (3 KV-85s, 2 SU-152s, 2 SU-76s) of 1452nd SAP again attacked the German defenses in the area of Ishun. Tanks supported the infantry of the 3rd Guards Rifle Division.

2024-04-21(A) Vic Lauterbach vs JM Russian winI drew the attacking Soviets in this odd little fight. My plan was to push down the left side of the board and grab buildings K3 and L9. It went surprisingly well helped by good dice. One SU-152 was swallowed by a tank trap, one KV-85 was torched by a PF, but I only lost three HS. Jim: The key for the defense is "...or any adjacent woods hex" in SSR3. It can double or triple the tank trap threat. I missed that, so three of my six tank traps were NOT adjacent to woods. Then the 75L missed its first two shots and was obliterated by an 85L unlikely hit/CH. Once I was down to PFs, Vic's Soviet monsters ran amuck, and he took the buildings easily. Still fairly fun, but definitely pro-Soviet.
