Overview:

Before Cholm was completely encircled by elements of the 3rd Shock Army and subsequent reinforcements, the Russian Army was aided in their efforts by significant numbers of partisans who also hounded the very same enemy. German intelligence reports estimated that between 2,000 and 2,500 partisans were operating in the wider regions of this part of Russia. In the early morning hours of 18 January, a sizeable, well-armed and well-led partisan force under the command of N.G. Vasilyev, mounted a bold attack aimed at seizing the entire town.

2023-10-26(A) Jeff B vs John Fedoriw German win3.5 hrsWith NVR of 3 and such a small play area, I knew the night rules would't have a whole lot of impact considering the Germans can readily see half the board around the VC hex without even throwing up a starshell. The disallowance of FGs for the partisan force would be their biggest drawback, and this was in effect night or not. I rather enjoyed the sneaking up to the building part of the game, but once he was able to stuff the VC building to the gills and I had to weather 36+1 shots over and over it got old rather quickly. This happened on T4. With the CVP count 8:3 I should've just sent a leader with a DC to try and place it on the fort and pulled back the rest. But I stupidly tried to play it like a real scenario and not some gamey POS. When the dicefest battle of pure luck finally went my way and I was able to break 2/3 of his squads and pin the other I managed to sneak in three HS (two of them remaining concealed). But when he rolled a 3 in CC he took them all down and it was all but over at that point. This really degenerated into a stinky scenario.
2023-03-01(D) Richard Jenulis vs Dennis Hess German winThe local civilians apparently disliked the Russian mafia partisans more than the Germans and ratted out the onboard Partisans who were gunned down by Kfz. The main Russian attack ran into my HIP units. With both DC units broke close to Germans who could sweep up the mess, the Russian player called it on turn 3.
