The Allied efforts to breach the German fortified defenses known as the Hitler Line were moving slowly forward. General Juin, commanding the Free French forces in Italy, had a plan to outflank the Germans through the Esperia defile and on to Mt. Onto. The initial French assault was forcefully repulsed by anti-tank ambushes and determined defenders manning positions among the rock-strewn approaches to Esperia. General Monsabert was not deterred, however, and ordered an all-out combined-arms assault, with a battalion of African infantry attacking the town over the hills and an armored force pushing up the road.
Attacker: Free French (Groupement Linares, Chasseurs d' Afrique)
I put up a forward defence and thought it was a decent set up, let down by some average dice. Interesting VC's and I suspect most of the German wins have come from the Free French failing to get the captured buildings needed by turn 3. I see there have been a few wins on the first turn, people not reading the VC's correctly I suspect.

This scenario is feast or famine. It either ends before turn 1 is complete, or goes the distance. It can also be very dicey. If the Free French doesn't get some critical rolls turn 1 (or if the Germans get a few hot rolls turn 1) it won't end well for the French. I like the idea of dynamic VCs or sudden death type VCs, but I didn't even make it out of my turn 1 (Free French). I had a plan and it was mostly going okay until I stumbled across the German AT gun that got off 4 straight shots, one of them a CH on a Sherman. At the end of the FF MPh I was adjacent to 4 building hexes that I would advanced in to. Unfortunately the units in 3 of those 4 hexes were pinned because of great low FP rolls by my opponent, and lousy MC/PTC rolls by myself. So, at most I could capture 1 building of the 3 required by the end of the first Game Turn, and the game ended after only three phases. We still had fun, but approach this scenario carefully and understand what you're getting into with the VCs.

NWASL Championship 2020 - round 2
My fastest win in my ASL career. The game was over by my turn 1 Final Fire Phase when it became obvious that the Free French could at best only get two buildings, and most likely would only end up with one. The Germans played a very upfront defense that caught the Free French unexpected. Despite winning in less time than it took to set up, this scenario keeps me thinking about the different possibilities. I seldom want to play the same scenario twice, but I would like to try this again as the Free French.

Dicey scenario ended with failure of FF to achieve needed conditions on first turn. Would like to play again, as VC force attacker into extreme aggression which makes it tense and fun.

I was able to fulfill the 6 bldgs at end of Turn 1 VC for the win. I think this is quite an interesting scenario overall. I like the end game sort of maneuver it forces in the opening moves. It can feel a little dicey though since you have to take risks to try to win w/ the sudden death type VC's.

Played again without the French giving up the playbalance. Reinforcements entering on turn 1 allowed this game to go to turn three, but the French were unable to get the 9 building locations needed to keep the game going.

Failed to make VC at turn 3. Came close, but only through incredible dice luck. It's like a desperate last turn rush on the first 3 turns. Neither of us had much left when it did end.

Very difficult attack for the Free French across an open road. Forced to attack aggressively and seek out CC in order to avoid the sudden death loss on turns 1, 2 and 3 the French are very dependent on decent dice to stay in the game. A unique scenario that does not entirely succeed but is worth a play. In my game the French lost at the end of turn 2 when the Germans recaptured one of the required buildings.
