Overview:
"Sisters in Arms" - On 23rd August, Stalingrad, threatened for several weeks by the German advance, became the front line when the combined efforts of the 6th Army and the 4th Panzer Army broke through the defences of the 62nd Army while the Luftwaffe launched a terror raid on the city which may have killed 40,000 people. The city was full of shelters, but the defence was passive and often poorly organised, despite the presence of PVO AA batteries, often manned by women. The air raids ended in the afternoon, when the artillerymen and militia saw the columns of the 16th Panzer Division arriving from the south-west. The 37mm gun barrels were lowered to face the panzers.Attacker: German (16.Panzer-Division)
