Overview:

On the 18th of January 1943, a battalion of the Japanese 16th Division began infiltrating across the slopes of Mt. Silanganan, where the terrain so rugged and densely forested that I Corps had been unable to form a continuous defensive line. On the 21st, the Japanese force emerged onto the West Road near Kilometer Post 167 and quickly established a strong roadblock position, severing I Corps’ supply route. The first attempt to dislodge them failed. The next morning the Americans counterattacked at both ends of the roadblock. . .

2020-11-19(D) Paul Works vs Dan Best Japanese winRoadblock on the south was covered by an AT gun, the 10-2 leader, and multiple units. Norther roadblock was covered by an HMG and MMG and multiple squads. Approaches to northern and southern roadblocks covered by AT mines. Center roadblack placed to black the bridge and covered by several squads and the other AT gun. Dan attacked aggressively on the first turn and had multple squads break. His tanks on the south pushed forward and "found" one of my AT mines - immobilizing it. The multiple MGs on the south and the AT Gun significantly inhibited the US/PI advance on that side; what really slowed his advance, however, was the loss of three leaders - two (including the 9-2) to my sniper. I malf'd the AT gun, then repaired it. Dan moved his tanks through the woods on both sides. I got into CC with two of them. One with a bezerk squad and a crew, the other with a TH Hero. Both tanks went down in CC. Several crazy sequences occurred on the south side. I had a HS on the woods up on the hill that contributed (blocking routes and in CC) that personnally killed four squads and an 8-1 leader - and created the THH that killed one of the M3 tanks. A reduced-strength crew (that had broke and disabled his HMG...) single-handedly killed two of Dan's tanks in CC. On the north side, Dan's forces eventually overwhelmed my defenses - this was helped by one of my leaders wounding and dying immediately and my other leader and HMG-crew going berserk and charging out of the jungle to get mowed down in the open (what's up with that!! :-)). By Turn 5, Dan was in position to start roadblock removal attempts in the north. I did have several squads in position to slow his advance to the center. His attack on the south was bottled up with three destroyed tanks. At this time, the U.S./PI forces had suffered over 16 squad losses and had approximately 7 other broken. He had one remaining (8-0) leader on the south. Dan conceded at this point. This is a fun scenario. I think it requires some patience on the U.S./PI side to get assets into position to attack.

2017-04-03(A) Doba Serge vs Japanese win
2017-01-02(A) Jeff B vs Scott Sherer Filipino / American win16.5 hrsI'm not sure the Japanese stand much of a chance in this one. Despite some hot early rolling by the Japanese, the Americans/Philippines just have way too many forces and way too much time to press the attack.
2017-01-01(D) Scott Sherer vs Jeff B Filipino / American winVery fun and enjoyable scenario. As the Japanese, I had some good rolls early on, but they quickly evened out with a spate of boxcars breaking several Japanese heavy weapons. I think the key for the Japanese is deciding on how many forces to defend the outer rouadblocks and how many to save in reserve to defend the interior roadblock.
