Overview:

As pressure mounted, Soviet minefields came into play as an important factor in the battle, channeling German attacks. On the eastern flank of the German thrust at Ponyri, the Germans launched an attack against the strongly-defended road junction heading to Maloarkhangelsk. Here, a detachment of Ferdinands were sent into action, along with their associated Goliath demolition vehicles. This combination of armored and high explosive firepower forced its way into the outer defensive zone with success, although at great cost.
