Overview:

Upon their arrival in Burma on February 21, the 7th Armored Division was hastily dispatched to Pegu. The 17th Division already at Pegu was strengthened by the arrival of the 1st Cameronians, 1st west Yorkshires and the 7th Armored Division. On March 5, they mounted a counter-offensive against the Japanese 55th Division east of Pegu at Waw. On the morning of March 6 in a heavy fog, ‘A’ Squadron of the 7th Hussars advanced up the main road leading northward out of Pegu on a routine patrol when they were ambushed by antitank gun fire, knocking out one tank and blowing the tread off a second. The squadron radioed for help. As the fog lifted, a troop of tank from the 7th Hussars supported by a company of the 1st West Yorkshires attacked the Japanese position.
