Overview:
On 10 April, the command of the 17th Army reached the conclusion that it didn’t have the necessary forces to hold the northern front and gave the general retreat order. All forces were to head towards Sevastopol. The Soviets, getting wind of German plans to evacuate the peninsula launched an offensive to destroy the 17th Army. The German/Romanian defences on the northern part of the Crimea were breached, precipitating a general withdrawal. The Soviets closed up to the Sevastopol perimeter and began to launch attacks from the 27 April onwards in preparation for their major assault. On 6 May 1944, once again formed into a unit, 1452nd SAP, now comprising only one KV-85 and two SU-152s, reached Sevastopol and fought in the area of Mekenziev Hills, supporting the 37th Guards Rifle Division.Attacker: Russian (37th Guards Rifle Division and 1452nd SAP)
