Overview:

Nestled in the picturesque Hron Valley, the communication center of Telgart was a key objective for the uprising in central Slovakia. As the insurgency gained successes in the center, both the Slovak regular forces and partisan groups gained confidence. Experienced officers and NCOs were in short supply all over, but one leader stood out on the Slovak side. Former French Legionnaire Captain Jan Stefanik was a reported authoritarian, but also personally fearless. On 5 September, he led his two battalions and company of light tanks in an attack on Telgart, hoping to capture the city and link up with the advancing Red Army.

2023-04-16(D) Ron Garcia vs Darryl M. German winQuick scenario. I set up my German force with three squads, two leaders, two LMG's, and the MMG on the second level of building Q4. The rest of my forces were situated to fall back towards that building and O5. Not very worried about the partisans, I only put one 4-4-7 and a couple of concealments near the hill mass. My friend put his entire Slovak force around where the two boards meet.

LOS from the level two building isn't great, but I took any negative or flat shots from the forces in it that I could get. I only fired around 10 or 12 shots but they were effective. By mid turn two the Slovaks were hurting with several broken and a couple of casualty reduced squads. The nail in the coffin came when I took an eight flat PFPh shot at his 10-2, two elite and a broken unit in a woods hex near where the board meet. Before I rolled I jokingly exclaimed, "This is for the game!" and promptly rolled snakes. Random selection KIA'ed the 10-2 and one of the elite squads. Faced with half his force broken, dead or CR'ed, my friend didn't bother rolling the LLMC's and called it a day. He wasn't diced as I barely rolled the dice; it was just one of those games where just enough went wrong early and often that there wasn't much point in continuing.

My advice for the Slovaks is to make a wide attack to pin the Germans in place and give them more hard fire choice decisions. For the Germans, even with limited LOS from it, don't underestimate the advantage of that 2nd level building!
2022-04-01(D) Rob MacGinley vs James Short German winThe Slovaks pushed thru teh entre of town into my in depth defence - then I brought the AA truck up the rear to block his routs etc
2021-05-21(D) Michael Rodgers vs Jimmy Engren German winSlovak player was returning to the hobby.
2021-05-02(D) walter mcwilliams vs Tom Kerney German winTom and I took a break from play testing to engage in this short fight. It was a horrid display of shooting by both sides, but the German's managed to keep it together long enough for the win. Tom chose VC option 3, Overall a good scenario on the wonderful board 68. Recommended!
2021-04-04(D) Andy Bagley vs Hans Bugge German winMy second playing of this scenario, and more successful this time thanks to an improved defensive setup, a good dose of luck and some over-aggressive Slovaks. My opponent went for VC#3, delaying the partisan entry, and tried some risky CX runs with stacked infantry on turn 1. Unfortunately this ran into a couple of HIP HSs and they took serious losses. Although the Slovaks made steady progress from there, they continued to take losses, and despite lots of VBM freezes and close-range shooting with their tanks, they never had enough force to take the buildings they needed.
