Overview:

The 1st Battalion had some 800-1,000 meters of open ground and rice paddies to traverse in order to reach Hill 105-S, the day's objective. The scheme of maneuver called for a base of fire from Hill 68, while A Company moved on the objective and C Company, with a heavy machine gun section attached, swung to the right to envelope the hill from its left flank. Not long after passing the line of departure, A Company was pinned down by fire from the forward slopes of the Hill 105-S. When some elements of A Company finally did reach the forward-most slopes of the hill, they found an abandoned US made .50 caliber machine gun and plenty of ammunition.
