Overview:
The 2nd Belorussian Front continued to pursue German forces to the west as they attacked toward Minsk. In the process they were encircling numerous German pockets of the XXVII. XII. and XXXIX Corps. On 1 July, the Front Commander ordered his armies to continue their pursuit as well as to continue to liquidate German groupings. The 49th Army was ordered to attack aggressively along the Minsk Highway directly into the bridgehead of XII Corps. The 69th Rifle Corps met stiff resistance on 2 July as it advanced toward the Berezina River.
