Overview:
German forces had given up positions east of Baranovichi and withdrew into the city, which they were turning into a strongpoint. The Russian 1st Mechanized Corps was ordered to pursue the enemy into the city and capture the railroad junction by 3 July, while other units were ordered to capture towns around Baranovichi. The advances of the 1st Mechanized Corps, which had not yet seized its objectives even by 5 July, was checked by Panzer Division 4.
