Overview:

As Canadian forces pushed steadily through the olive groves and vineyards west of Ortona, Fallschirmjäger-Division 1 was compelled to establish a new defensive line in the town itself. Ortona was already something of a rubble-strewn maze from damage caused by near-incessant Canadian artillery fire; now the Germans enhanced the shambles with demolitions to block likely avenues of approach. By 20 December, the Canadians had reached the outskirts of southern Ortona. A reconnaissance conducted late that evening revealed no German presence whatsoever. Plans were laid to enter the town using the main road -- the Corso Vittorio Emanuele -- to push straight through to the other end of Ortona. At dawn the next morning, the Loyal Edmonton Regiment launched the attack and almost immediately ran into well-prepared German defenses the recce had not revealed.
Attacker: Canadian (C Company, Seaforth Highlanders of Canada, 2nd Canadian Infantry Brigade and Three Rivers Regiment, 1st Canadian Armoured Brigade)
Defender: German (Bataillon II, Fallschirmjäger-Regiment 3, Fallschirmjäger Division 1)

2025-09-29(A) Andy Bagley vs Neil Brunger German winSecond playing of this scenario, this time with the Canadians, but my attack never really got started. I got a couple of tanks round to the German rear, but they had little effect. By turn 4 I had taken heavy losses, had yet to control any victory buildings, and hadn't even discovered his HIP HS in the F14 steeple! Conceded at this point as obviously a German win.

2025-04-25(D) Jonathan Plott vs Lew Walker German winBitter Ender 2025 in Raleigh, NC. A great game of hide-and-seek as the Canadians attempted to flush my Fallschirmjaegers out of the village. Best use of dummy stacks I've ever done. A close game that came down to the final turn. Turned out to be a one-game mini-tournament; won the (un)prestigious "Where's Steiner?" plaque! Great meting a fellow vet and ASL player!
