Overview:
As part of the encirclement of Nancy, several attempts were made to cross the Moselle River north of the city. After two failed assaults against determined German resistance, a third, strongly-supported effort was made at Dielouard. The 317th Regiment, 80th Infantry Division crossed the river starting 12 September. The regiment's battalions quickly spread out from the bridgehead, occupied positions no the surrounding heights, established roadblocks, and prepared for the inevitable German response. During the night of 12/13 September, elements from the 29th Panzergrenadier Regiment assaulted the U.S. positions in company groups, each supported by assault guns and tanks.Attacker: German (29 Panzergrenadier Regiment, 3 Panzergrenadier Division)
