Overview:
The second phase of the 1944 Soviet summer offensive began on 13 July. By 18 July, the Soviets had broken the German defenses over a front of 200 kilometers and depth of 50 kilometers and had encircled eight German divisions within the "Brody Pocket". The Soviets sought to collapse the pocket by focusing attacks against the newly established 14. Waffengrenadier der SS (Galizien) which was made up of Ukrainian volunteers. On 20 and 21 July, the Germans attempted a number of breakout and rescue attempts. Althuogh several units broke through, the majority remained. On 22 July, several attempts were made from the southwest sector of the pocket. One such attempt was made by a large number of Ukrainian and German troops between the villages of Liats'ke and Iasenivtsi.Attacker: German (SS) (Remnants of 14. Waffengrenadierdivision der SS (Galizien) and lead elements of 1. Panzerdivision)
Defender: Russian (336th Rifle Division, 15th Rifle Corps, 60th Army and Tank Platoon, Proskurov Brigade)

2024-10-30 | (D) Kevin Duval | vs | Dwayne Duval | D | Russian win | Galicians were held north of the road. Only one AFV and one squad made it through the gauntlet. OBA kept the relief force unable to offer assistance. Russian Turn 5 Groups sealed their fate.

2023-07-08 | (D) Kermit Mullins | vs | Dan Best | German (SS) win | Really not fun game. My Russian tanks got blasted right away with two destroyed. My other two went to the 58 high ground, but then got destroyed by the Tigers. This game feels scripted to let the Germans escape. Dan did an east board edge creep, which basically eliminated half the Russian force, which wasn't able to pivot effectively. My Russians got in some licks, by but Turn 6, the Germans had all the victory points exited...so that was game. Scenarios that overly script the action make for unsatisfying game play. This scenario could be better if the Russians had more flexibility in setup and in where they bring in their reinforcements. And allowing the German player to set up right on top of 4 Russian T-34's at game start...why?? Why do that? Nobody playing ASL enjoys having their backside handed to them at the very start of the game.
