Overview:
General Mascarenhas was anxious to try his Brazilian troops against Germans who stood their ground. To do this, he planned an advance to a new line of operations around the area of Camaiore-Monte Prano. To reach this area the Brazilian Expeditionary Force (BEF) would first have to capture Camaiore. Brig. Gen. Euclydes Zenobio da Costa, the division's infantry commander, assigned a special mixed group under the command of Captain Emani Ayrose of the 1st Battalion, 6th "Ipiranga" Infantry Regiment, to attack. This they did on 18 September 1944, supported by U.S. tanks.Attacker: Brazilian / American (Brazilian 1st Battalion, 6th "Ipiranga" Infantry Regiment with HW & tank support)
Defender: German (42 Jager Division)

2022-01-01 | (A) Rich Weiley | vs | Dave Wallace | German win | My strategy was basically to ignore the bridge and try to force a passage across the stream on the western flank through the S10 bottleneck. Critical hit by one of the light mortars in the German prep fire phase of turn one followed by a yahtzee on random selection eliminated the artillery observer and a squad in X4. There was a single german squad in T10 which fell back to S10 and survived numerous shots and managed to immobilize a Sherman in its hex and completely stymied my assault through turn 2. I was finally able to break and reduce the squad in my turn 3 prep but wasn't able to move out of T10, The same mortar, which had repositioned to P8 then hit T10 with a second critical hit. This time random selection was immaterial as he rolled snakes on the effects diceroll to kill another squad and the 9-1. Having lost two and a half squads and two leaders and with the German defence almost entirely intact I conceded.
2021-12-02 | (D) Michael Rodgers | vs | Randy Rossi | German win | If the Germans blow the bridge, it becomes very difficult for the Americans to win.
2021-04-03 | (D) Kermit Mullins | vs | Dan Best | German win | Hard fought game against Dan Best. It went the full 8 turns and was decided in the final close combat. Dan's Brazilians were hurt early by the German HMG fire group and suffered a bunch of ELR's. The German 8-1 with the HMG would break the HMG and then destroy it with a 6. He would break and miss four straight rally attempts, before rejoining the battle. He would later go heroic and redeem himself by winning the game-winning close combat. I was never able to roll less than 8 to set off my set DC, which honestly really upset me. My rolls were bad even for me. Dan's tanks got some good kills before all three were destroyed. Dan's infantry, despite their heavy losses still managed to get into the village and wrestle 7 buildings away from my Germans and would have won the game had they won the final close combat. Kudos to Dan on achieving so much with such a depleted force.

2021-01-04 | (D) Dave Mareske | vs | Dennis Dowd | German win | I talked Dennis into exchanging the mortars for OBA, then he couldn't get radio contact and when he did drew a red card. Finally in turn 5 he would be able to do something, but by then he had lost two tanks with the third out of position and had no Brazilians on level one hill yet, so he called it. The German defenses were not yet impacted by the assault, electing to fight and withdraw. This one is tough on the Brazilians when they don't get SMOKE to cover their advance. |
