Overview:
Leading the advance was the 5th Battalion, The Grenadier Guards, which they would have regarded as their right as the senior infantry regiment of the British Army. The Grenadiers proceeded towards Carroceto, securing the Embankment to the south and by late afternoon they were firmly in place in the Factory, at the cost of nearly a company. True to form, the Germans mounted counterattacks that night.
