Overview:
With Belgium defeated, political elements with the Belgian Congo began to agitate for independence from the weakened Belgian government in exile. Guerilla bands formed in an attempt to bring this change about by force, but in many cases these groups were no more than organized brigands. The response of the local administration was to meet force with force. In the north-west of the country, the local Mt Mutumbo Garrison began a counter-guerilla sweep through the mountains. Due to a lack of effective communications, the garrison was not aware of an Italian force which had crossed the border from Uganda that morning and was heading straight for them. Nor was the Mt Mutumbo Garrison aware they were about to stumble onto the guerilla stronghold - who were waiting in ambush for both groups.Attacker: Italian (Raggruppamento Corazzato Africa Orientale)
