Overview:

It was the firm belief that the watercourse between the railway-bridge island and the mainland was dry. In this, the intel was mistaken. The assault company of the 4th Somerset Light Infantry reached the island with little difficulty. It was only after crossing its length to the cut underneath the destroyed bridge that they would discover that it was sixty feet wide with steep, muddy banks and underneath the immeasurable water.
Attacker: British (A/4th Somerset Battalion, 129th Infantry Brigade, 43rd Wessex Division and elements of A/1st Worcestershire Battalion, 214th Infantry Brigade and 8th Middlesex MG Battalion and 15/19th Hussars)
Defender: German (Elements of Kampfgruppe Meyer, Grenadier Regiment 148, Infanterie Division 49)

2022-04-17(D) O Ramaille vs Julien D German winPlayed at Hedgerow Hell 2022. The German appeared to have setup forward protecting the foot bridge area. The British smoke capacity and firepower on the other side of the Seine river covered the crossing by assault boats and DUKW. They tried to land on the SLI island filled with quite empty trenches but they soon discovered how difficult the terrain was with mudflats, muddy brushes and muddy orchards. A hidden German squad was even able to sink an assault boat. Nevertheless, the German were unable to prevent the British to cross and some retreated through the tunnels. They were however successful, with the help of the terrain, to considerably slow the British advance. The Brits pushed trying to secure the area and find any hidden German units. They were able to secure the fortified castle and the bunker, and the HMG nest. But they were not able to clean the woods up hill where a British squad was pinned just in front of the last good order German squad in the setup area. A hide and seek game where the German need to remain hidden the longest time possible to avoid the heavy firepower advantage of the British. A good introduction to river crossing and to the Operation Neptune campaign.
2022-02-13(A) Eric Partizan Eric vs German win
2021-11-20(D) Ian Morris vs Craig Benn German winCraig crossed the river with ease, but couldn’t get out of his beachhead. His 9-2 broke and remained broken for the rest of the game, and when my 8-0 SMC pushed forward to bugger his rout options, he conceded.
2021-11-20(A) Paul Legg vs Ian Pollard German winBounding Fire Blackpool - Played with out balance. My Brits got off to a bad start when one of the dukws was sunk crossing the river, however the assault boats were successful in ferrying units across. his went to the last close combat of the last turn with 15 of the 16 victory locations captured.
