Overview:
At 0745 on the morning of 7 June, the vanguard of the 9th Canadian Infantry Brigade began rolling southward from the area of Colomby-sur-Thaon. The Brigade objective was Carpiquet and its airport. Forming the spearhead of the vanguard was "C" Company of the North Nova Scotia Highlanders, Assault Sections of the battalion Pioneer Platoon, the reconnaissance troop of the 27th Armoured Regiment, machine gunners of the Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa and tank destroyers of the regimental Anti-Tank Regiment. Behind these units came the other three rifle companies of the NNSH's who were riding into battle on the decks of the 27th Armoured Regiment's Sherman tanks.
