Overview:

At the end of August, the Finns had liberated the last of the territory taken by the Russians at the conclusion of the Winter War. In his Order of the Day for 3 September, Field Marshal Mannerheim told his armies: "The Frontier has been reached. The fight goes on." The Finnish offensive in Ladogakarelia began on the night of 4 September. By the middle of September, the Army of Karelia had possession of the entire length of the Svir River northeast of Leningrad and was developing a concentric attack on Petrozavodsk, the capital of Eastern Karelia. The Finnish 1st Jaeger Brigade approached Petrozavodsk from the south along the Murmansh Railroad, while the Finnish 1st Division pressed in from the northwest. Units of the Russian Petrozavodsk Operational Group resisted fiercely.

2024-11-22(D) Andy Beaton vs James Rimmer Russian win4 hrsFinns were in the lead until the Russian reinforcements arrived, at which point the Finnish casualties and broken equipment (including the FT tank that gacked it's first shot) meant the Finns couldn't resist the Russian tide.
2024-10-14(D) Dave Mareske vs Dennis Dowd Russian winThe Finns had trouble passing NMCs which slowed their progress. The FT tank got immobilized facing the wrong way. Called it in favor of the Russians at Turn 5.
2024-10-04(D) Eben Johnson vs Will Willow Russian winI played the Russians, and while I broke most of my equipment---in one session, 16% of my 58 rolls were 11s or 12s---I also had a few good rolls too (e.g., my MMG wrecked his flamethrower tank), and I was able to wear down the Finns. Not helping the Finns, either, was a string of bad rally attempts.

I suspect one needed Finnish tactic is to keep the forces spread so as to react quickly to the Russian reinforcements---easier said than done because too little defense means the Russians might retake VCs.

Cheers,
2024-05-19(D) Herve Duval vs Jean Lasnier Finnish winASL Ring 2024.
Great scenario.
Played for 8 hours before I conceded.
Russian Flame Thrower never ran out of fire, which did not help my Russians. Also my best leader got killed by a sniper in the 4th victory building as the Finns were approaching,
2024-02-02(A) David Ramsey vs Martin Barker Russian winGreat scenario where I pushed for the 4 single point buildings and couldn't beat off the counter attack from the stronger reinforcement group. Feels tough for the Russians but their flexible reinforcement positioning helps mitigate against the Finns.
