Overview:

Vital to the control of central Tunisia, the Faid Pass was a narrow defile between two razorback ridges. It had been taken by the Americans in December and since then had been a nightmare for the Axis. With all available American forces massing for an attack at Maknessy, the pass was now defended by the ill-equipped Free French forces from the "Constantine" Division, a unit so poorly supplied that its troops begged for American helmets just so that the Germans might be fooled into thinking that they were attacking a better-armed American unit. In the last days of January 1942, Panzer-Division 21 turned its vision on this last significant gap in the Eastern Dorsal mountain range held by the Allies.
Attacker: German/Italian (Kampfgruppe Pfeiffer, 50th Special Brigade, 5° Reggimento Bersaglieri and 131° Divisione Corazzata "Centauro" with Kampfgruppe Grün, Panzer-Regiment 5, Panzer-Division 21)
Defender: Free French (Regiment de Tirailleurs Africaine and 67th Regiment d'Artillerie Algerien, Constantine March Division)
