Overview:

By mid-1944, Josip Tito had become a major headache for the German garrison in Yugoslavia. His communist partisan force, the National Liberation Army, had grown to a staggering 200,000 men and women. The Germans lacked the resources to deal with this threat, but they did know the location of Tito's headquarters near the city of Drvar. They launched Operation ROSSELSPRUNG in an attempt to surround and isolate it. At 0700 on 25 May, the German forces landed in gliders near the center of Drvar. Some of the men from "Draufganger" Group charged the telephone building. Getting in was easy, but once inside, a furious battle ensued.
