Overview:

Heraklion was the largest city on Crete, and one of the few places with an airfield. Therefore, it was a key objective of the German Airborne invasion. The reinforced Fallschirmjäger-Regiment 1 was tasked with the capture of the city, its harbor, and airfield. German planners had underestimated Allied forces in and around the city. Instead of just a motley assortment of raw Greek and weary Commonwealth troops, the garrison also contained a fresh British infantry brigade. After a disastrous landing the previous day virtually on top of these troops that resulted in over 1,000 German casualties, the Fallschirmjäger organized themselves for action. The group west of Heraklion, commanded by Major Schultz, would attack into the ancient part of the city, capture the harbor, and relieve the beleaguered comrades who were surrounded at the airfield east of the city. The German force was divided into two groups, one under Lt. Karl-Heinz Becker, entered via the ancient North Gate, the other, under Lt. Reinhard Egger, entered through the West Gate.

2025-03-21(D) Tim Reade vs Dave Shannon German winIt came down to the last turn with 2 very pro German CC rolls. The Germans created 2 hero's and this combined with the heavy German forepower was tough for the allies to combat.

I did my best to put all roadlocks in the way of the German advance and it cam down to the Germans having to pick up 2 of the last 3 victory buildings in their last turn. Despite 1FP firelanes and low RFP, the high morale of the attackers allowed them to make it into the buildings.

This is a tough one for the Allies I feel, and you need to be very disciplined with keeping your lines intact, falling back, and not getting surrounded.

However, lots of fun, and the random local militia arrival is a nice touch.
2024-12-06(A) Mark Thompson vs Len Kay (Allies) German winAlbany 2024 Round 2. The Germans took the shortest rout to the victory buildings, continuously deployed the 468s to rapidly infiltrate past and destroy the weak Greek/civilian forces (e.g., by FTR), and reached their objective in significant force early in the game. The Allies conceded before entry of second British reinforcements as it was clear that this force would be interdicted and unlikely be capable to re-taking more than one victory building. Quite tough on the Allies IMHO with the significant German FP, excellent leadership, 8 morale, and 4 ELR.
2024-08-24(D) John Haughey vs Jeff Weiss German win4 hrs
2024-08-24(D) Tuomo Lukkari vs Sami Pelkonen British/Greek win
2024-05-10(D) Bob McKenna vs Mike Pucchio German winGermans steamroll and take tons of Greek prisoners. Germans sweep.in an stop British reinforcements before they can get to harbor fort. Over in 4 turns. Dice extremes for Grk/British no.help. Lots of cowering for Allies. Not many options for Allies. Textbook play by Pooch.
