Overview:
The Italians invaded Somaliland in early August, British recon forces and unexpected rain slowed down the Italians, but they eventually reached the main British line of resistance located on the various hills at Tug Argan Gap. The entrenched British had no supporting armor and so few guns that they had to borrow a 3-pounder from the HMAS Hobart. The left most position on this defensive line was Observation Hill manned by a 75-man machine-gun company from the Somaliland Camel Corps (SCC). Attacks by the 3rd Blackshirt Battalion on the 11th, 12th and 14th were repulsed, but the remainder of the British line did not hold.
