Overview:
In mid-December 1942, in Tunisia, the Army of Africa, finally united with the Allies, mounted the first offensive of the French army since the Defeat. It targeted the town of Pont-du-Fahs in order to deprive the Axis of an important road crossroads. The rugged terrain and poor weather favored the rustic colonial infantry and the Italian enemy, little known, is in all cases underestimated. The operation mobilized a meager division which formed several mixed groups of infantry and artillery, reinforced by some Allied additions including British armored cars. First objective, Jebel Ben-Saidane. The action was delayed and did not begin until the 20th, certainly in a satisfactory manner.
