Overview:
Capt. Stronach and his Carrier Platoon arrived at Tanaheran midday to find a new location for 14th Brigade HQ. The village, surrounded by a coral wall, seemed idyllic as it was less than 250 meters from a small coral cliff and the southern beach, plus the area was reported cleared by 30th Battalion. Next to the village, the vast majority of the Japanese were hiding in the jungle with most of their weapons. One soldier was shot at and missed as he strolled towards the cliff. This prompted members of the Carrier Platoon to search the jungle only to be hit with rifle and machine gun fire. With this development, Stronach called for reinforcements. The machine gun company came forward followed by two tanks. The Japanese replied with multiple mortars.
