Overview:

Phase one of the Japanese Operation Ichi-Go had the Nationalists thinking it was a limited local operation in the north. When phase two began, the massive nature of the operation was revealed as 400,000 Japanese attacked south to secure a land-link with Indo-China and capture US Bomber bases. Changsha fell early, making Hengyang the next city in the offensive's path. The Chinese quickly garrisoned the city with 17,000 troops. Locals were employed to build defensives. They carved away the nearby hillsides into cliffs and fortified their tops with trenches and pillboxes. The Japanese encircled the city with over 100,000 troops and intended to take it within two days. The battle began with the Japanese attacking the southern city approaches using ladders to scale the man-made cliffs and silence the Chinese positions at the top.

2025-04-12(A) Dan Best vs Kermit Mullins Chinese win1.5 hrsFirst to play and post.
2025-04-12(D) Kermit Mullins vs Dan Best Chinese win1.5 hrsMy Chinese went with rear slope defense and had all the MG's located to sweep all three hills. Japanese were slaughtered as my dice were super hot and Dan's dice were this side of awful with far too many 11's leading to dead, striped, ELR'd and broken Japanese squads. Not sure how the Japanese can overcome a rear slope defense. Interlocking fire lanes and residual fire where the Japanese come up the cliffs was brutal. Wonder is that kind of defense was play tested against.
