Overview:

After the seesaw battles on 7 July, each side began the next morning in pretty much the same location they were the morning before. The Germans had few reserves left as lnfanterie-Division 292 was nearly exhausted and all remaining Ferdinands were in the repair shops. On the Soviet side, the 307th Rifle Division was down to battalion strength, but the Red Army's "god of War'' -artillery-was not letting up. Generaloberst Walter Model threw in his only remaining mobile reserve, a weakened Panzer-Division 18. Through the broken sunflower fields and fruit garden west of the train station, one more attempt was made to clear the pakfronts and flank the town.
