Overview:

The Allied Powers during the Great War gave Italy control of Albania but the Albanians were not consulted about this. At the end of the Great War Albania had neither an established government nor internationally recognized borders. This made it vulnerable to its neighbors Italy, Greece, and Yugoslavia, all of whom sought to expand their influence. Territorial tensions escalated as Yugoslavia, particularly Serbia, sought control of northern Albania, while Greece aimed at controlling southern Albania. Despite these efforts Italian influence continued to grow. In 1928, Ahmet Zogu transitioned Albania from a republic to a monarchy, and proclaimed himself King Zog I. For the next ten years, Italian influence continued, and the Royal Albanian Army (Ushtria Mbretërore Shqiptare) was being trained by Italian military instructors using Italian weapons. Through the 1930s Prime Minister Benito Mussolini continued to assert control over Albania. In 1937 he formalized a plan with Foreign Minister Gian Galeazzo Ciano to militarily place Albania back under Italian control.

2026-07-31(D) walter mcwilliams vs Gary Bartlett Italian winThe fun part of playing this scenario was playing Gary. He's an exceptionally skilled and fun opponent to enjoy a game with. As the record is showing, this scenario seems to favor the Italians. Bottom line, it's a bit of a dice fest for the Albanians in regard to eliminating the Italian armor, which account for 30 of the needed 41vp, the infantry guns and MG's have low TK rolls and PAATC's aren't great either. I managed to bag 1 in CC the rest drove off the board after taking multiple hits from the aforementioned INF and MG's. No idea what the balance provisions are however, either the Italian's need 1 or 2 fewer AFV or heftier VC.
2026-04-18(A) Jobbo Fett vs Albanian/Partisans winI got cocky as the Italians and attacked over a wide front, but when the dice went in favor of the Albanians (especially with their HMGs), it simply meant there was nothing to back up the invaders and press on any gains made. If I were to play it again, I'd likely send the Italians in as one large blob, spread out to avoid mass casualties, but able to reinforce necessary hexes.
