Overview:

As the American 37th Division closed the ring on Japanese-occupied Manila, its 129th Infantry Regiment, veterans of Bougainville, assaulted a Japanese stongpoint anchored on the New Police Station just east of Intramuros (the old inner city). Although the bastion measured 500 yards long and 250 across, the 129th would remember it as the toughest fight of the war, tougher even than Bougainville.
