Overview:
The 6.SS Gebirgsjäger-Division, which had arrived from Norway just a few weeks earlier, struck the US 179th Infantry Regiment on January 3rd. The 6.SS pushed back the Americans roughly 2 miles to the village of Zitterstein. In doing so, part of the 6.SS, the SS-Gebirgsjäger-Regiment 12, had formed its' own "bulge." Surrounded on all sides at Wingen-sur-Moder, the SS.Gebirgsjägers were fighting for their very survival. Just before darkness, the SS-Gebirgsjägers made one last attempt to penetrate the held in this sector by the US 180th Infantry Regiment.Attacker: German (SS) (Kampfgruppe Schreiber (I. and III.
